Easter Morning

easter morning 10Alleluia, Jesus lives!    Be ready to celebrate Easter by making  bright, joyous Easter art.  Any class can make this art project.  The upper classes can cut a circle to use as a template, and for the younger children, give them prepared circles.  The hills are torn from black construction paper and the crosses drawn in with black permanent marker.  The sky is colored using oil pastels.  The message can be written with oil pastels, crayons or black marker.  Use a ruler to make straight lines from the letters toward the crosses.

Supplies:

  • White construction paper
  •   Black construction paper
  •   Oil pastels
  • Circle template (3 ½ “ diameter)
  •  Black Sharpie
  •   Ruler
  •  Colored construction paper for matting

  1.   Cut a 3 ½” circle from cardboard or manila folder.  Tear a long strip from black construction paper, (2” to 3 ½ “ wide) making hills about 3 ½ “ tall.
  2. Place the circle template on the white construction  paper, 1 ¼ “ from the bottom of the paper and 4 ¼” from the sides. Use a small piece of tape to hold it in place.
  3. Starting with yellow oil pastels, make rays from the edge of the circle template to the outside edges of the white paper.
  4. Repeat with pink and orange oil pastels.

  1.  Repeat with blue oil pastels, only use the blue sparingly over the yellow, pink and orange area.  Have the blue finish to the top, and sides, representing the sky.
  2.  Remove the circle template, and using the yellow oil pastels, add strokes of color that go slightly into the white circle area.
  3. Glue the black hills to the bottom of the white paper.  With a black Sharpie, draw three crosses within the white circle area.
  4. The space between the words, “HE IS RISEN”  is the center.  Write the words, following an arc shape, with black oil pastel, black crayon or black Sharpie marker.
  5. Use a ruler to draw a broken line between each letter and the circle area.

Other phrases that could be used instead of He Is Risen:

REJOICE,       EASTER,     HE LIVES,     FORGIVEN, ALLELUIA,         KING OF KINGS,   GLORY TO GOD,     TRUE LOVE,    BELIEVE,    FORGIVENESS,      HE LOVES ME,   LOVE SAVES,     HE IS ALIVE,     THE EMPTY TOMB,    BELIEVE,    REMEMBER,    SENT WITH LOVE,   AMAZING GRACE,     SHOUT WITH JOY, HE PAID THE PRICE,
