No Sew Snowman

Our little country style, tea-dyed snowman is a no sew project. He is made from an old, white, adult sized sport sock that has been tea dyed.  A great way to use socks with no mates.

Supplies:

  • White adult sized sport sock (use inside out)
  • Beans for weight
  • Fiberfill
  • Cord
  • Flannel scrap 2 ½” x 15″
  • Glue gun
  • Buttons
  • Small black beads
  • Red bead or berry
  • Berry cluster (or a star, holly, candy cane)

Directions:

  1. Tea-dye the white sockRecipe: Add two tea bags to 1 cup of boiling water. Remove from heat and let steep for about 5 minutes (should be a dark reddish brown color.) Take out the tea bags, squeezing them to get the extra color from them. Dip the dampened sock into the tea water and let it soak until you are satisfied with the color. When you remove the sock and rinse it in cold water, it will be a lighter shade. If it looks too light you can put it back in the dye. Dry the sock.
  2. Fill the toe of the sock with one half cup (about one inch deep) beans.
  3. Add fiberfill over the beans (to measure about 4″ from the bottom.) Tie off with a cord.
  4. Above the cord, add fiberfill for the head. It’ll measure about 3″ up from the first cord. Tie off with another cord. Cut the sock about an inch from the top cord.
  5. From the cuff of the sock, measure down 6 ½”-7″ and cut. Fold the cuffed edge up about 1 ½”, gather and tie the opposite end 1 ½” from the end. Put the stocking cap on the snowman and hot glue a couple of places to hold in place.
  6. Glue small black beads for the eyes and mouth. Glue a red bead or berry for the nose. Glue three buttons down the front.
  7. Tie the flannel scarf around the neck.
  8. Glue a cluster of berries, holly or a star to the stocking cap.
