Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree

Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree always reminds me that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  When one person may say Charlie’s tree is pathetic, lots of others, especially children, would say it is beautiful.

In this project the second grade art class draws a picture of Charlie’s tree, lightly colors in a background, colors the drawing, and then either makes their own border or, if class time is a concern, use the included border images.

Print the clip art images on white paper and have the students color the images and the background before pasting to the edge of their art work.  Or print the images on colored paper:  if using the colored paper, the images can be left as is, or colored before cutting and pasting.

Supplies:

  • White construction paper
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Border clip art (Images)

On a white sheet of construction paper, draw Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree.  Use your imagination when making the tree holder, the rug and the ornament hanging on the tree.

Outline the drawn picture using a black Sharpie.  Then lightly color in a background, being careful to avoid the tree pot, rug and ornament.

Color the tree pot, rug, tree and ornament.  Also color the border images if you have printed the images on white paper.

Cut the images apart and glue them around the edge of the Charlie Brown’s tree drawing.
