WIRE HANGER BUNNY

We all seem to collect wire coat hangers and it’s nice to be able to recycle them into useful or crafty projects. This project is a very cute bunny made out of a wire coat hanger, cardstock, crayons or colored markers and a large pink cotton ball. Other supplies needed are a scissors, tape and a glue stick. Picture this hanging in the nursery or as an Easter decoration. Patterns are included to simplify the construction. Go to, “Hunny Bunny,” in the Miscellaneous Projects Gallery in the sidebar for directions.

FOLK ART WEATHERVANE

For over 2000 years, weathervanes have helped people predict the weather. Today, miniature models are also used as a decorative accent. The pattern for this project comes in two pieces that have to be butted together and glued. Cut the pattern out and trace it to poster board or light cardboard (like a gift box.) The patterns and directions for the “Weathervane,” are in the Miscellaneous Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

“LOVE YOU TO PIECES” FRAME

Now is the time to start thinking about a gift for Mother’s Day. Just about everyone has picture puzzles with missing pieces. Here is a cute project that uses up some of the remaining pieces. Cut a hole in the center of a paper plate for a snapshot, leave some space around the picture for writing, “Love you to Pieces,” and glue lots of puzzle pieces around the edge. The directions for this project are in the Miscellaneous Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

WIRE COAT HANGER SCARECROW

This is a wire coat hanger project just in time for Halloween. The patterns are for a two sided project, but if you want, you can use the patterns for (Side I) only. We did this last year with the 5th grade class and they did an outstanding job of finishing both sides. It might be a little too difficult for younger elementary kids. We hung the finished projects in the lunch room to decorate for Halloween.  Find the “Hanging Scarecrow” directions and patterns in the Halloween Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

MINNIE PAWS…..ONE SMART CAT

minnie paws finished4Minnie Paws is one smart cat because she lives in the library. This summer the elementary school did a huge remodel, even moving the library. I helped with decorating the library and it’s been a ball. In another post, I’ll share with you some pictures of the new library, but in this one I’d like you to meet Minnie Paws and give some ideas on how she can recommend books. You’ll find the tutorial for makingMinnie…the Smart Catin the Miscellaneous Projects Gallery tab in the sidebar. I think the kids in all the upper elementary grades could do this project, so I’m not specifying a particular grade.

THANKSGIVING BULLETIN BOARD

library-turkey-intro If you are looking for an idea for a Thanksgiving bulletin board, this is one that we just finished for the library. This is really appropriate for any classroom bulletin board. Patterns for making the turkey are included in this project. I cut the turkey pieces out of cereal box cardboard, but you could use poster board or card stock. Click on the image to the left for a larger photo. Find the patterns and instructions for this “Great Readers Gobble Up Books” bulletin board under the Miscellaneous Projects Gallery in the sidebar.

JESUS, REMEMBER ME WHEN YOU

jesus, remember me 12One of the men crucified with Jesus admits that he deserved to be hung for his crimes, and said that Jesus had done nothing criminal and didn’deserve to be crucified. We read in the gospel of Luke 24:42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom”.  Click the image for a close up view.

“HE HAS RISEN” DIORAMA

Resurrection diorama3I think this would be a nice Holy Week project, getting ready for Easter Sunday. Although this diorama is made only with paper, it could be changed, depending on how much time you have, by making the tomb and stones of clay. Also, a few copies of the hills could be made, to make a middle group and a front group of hills. Maybe keep the hills separated by using self adhesive foam strips between them. The tutorial for making this project, “Resurrection Diorama,” is found in the Easter Projects Gallery in the sidebar. Click on the above image for a close up view.
