Halloween Black Magic

These three Halloween figures, a bat, a cat and a spider are glued to black painted tp rolls. They can be taped on a piece of yarn or string and hung as a classroom decoration; they can be stuffed with mini candy bars and used as place cards; they can hold a rolled napkin for a napkin holder; or used as decorations on the table. These are very cute, easy to make and inexpensive.

Supplies:

  • Black construction paper
  • Black poster or craft paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Bat (Pattern)
  • Cat (Pattern)
  • Spider (Pattern)
  • Glue and glue dots
  • Google eyes
  • Tape
  • Yarn or string
  • Newspaper
  • Black tissue paper (if filling with mini candy bars)

Directions:

  1. Cover your work area with old newspaper. Paint the toilet tissue rolls with the black poster or craft paint. Set them aside to dry.
  2. Carefully cut out the bat, cat or spider and fold on the dotted lines. The closest dotted line to the body of the bat is bent to the back, then accordion pleat the rest. On the cat, fold the tail to the front and the crook of the tail back. On the spider, fold the center body to the back, and then accordion pleat the rest of the body lines. Bend the legs.
  3. Glue the back of the cat, bat and spider bodies to the painted tp rolls, making sure that the bottom of the body is even with the bottom of the roll. This way they can be set on the table.
  4. With glue dots, glue on the google eyes. If you desire, draw faces on them with a white charcoal pencil or correction fluid.
  5. String the yarn through the bodies and tape to keep them apart. Hang from the ceiling.
  6. If using to hold the candy bars, stuff black tissue paper into the bottom and put the candy bars in at the top.
