A wire coat hanger, a brown grocery bag and puzzle pieces are the basic supplies in this Thanksgiving project. Although the puzzle pieces can be glued on with a glue stick, it works better and goes faster with a glue gun. Therefore this project works better with the older kids who can use a glue gun. The directions for this project, “Pilgrim Wreath,” is found in the Thanksgiving Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
PILGRIM PUZZLE WREATH
LEAF ELEGANCE
This “Autumn Elegance” project has to be made up to see how beautiful it actually is. It would be perfect in a black matted picture frame. The brown grocery bag, after it is prepared for this project, looks like leather. And the gold glitter glue sets the black and gold motif off beautifully. Directions and patterns for this, “Autumn Elegance,” project can be found in the Thanksgiving Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
TURKEY SNACK HOLDER
PUMPKINS IN CHALK AND PAINT
We used colored chalk dipped in white poster paint to achieve the look in the “Pumpkin Patch.” This is another of those projects that look so nice made up—the picture doesn’t do it justice.
For instructions on how to make this project, “Pumpkin Patch,” go to the 4th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
PUMPKINS
All elementary kids love using oil pastels and this 3rd Grade group is getting very good at shading with them. We make the pumpkins separate and then glue them on the black background. We use oil pastels, scissors, glue sticks, glitter glue and black Sharpies. The gold, silver and green glitter give this piece of art a magical look. All the directions for “Midnight Pumpkins” can be found in the 3rd Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
I AIN’T NO TURKEY
I so wanted to use that title for the project but didn’t think it would look too good in school. So now I can’t resist. This is a 5th Grade project that had hilarious results. I don’t have a picture of it, but one looked like a big Hershey bar and carried a sign that said, “Candy’s not good for you.” For directions for,”I’m No Turkey,” look in the 5th Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
STUFFED TURKEY
After Thanksgiving dinner, we just want to sit because we’re so stuffed. Last year the 4th graders made these turkeys. Some of them really look uncomfortable. There are more pictures of these turkeys….enjoy. For the supply list and directions for this project, “Stuffed and Sittin” look in the Thanksgiving Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
HEADBAND
Isn’t this cute. Imagine a whole classroom full of these little turkeys. If time permits, use the handprints of the kids for the feathers. I have included a pattern for handprints if you want to have them printed out before class. We call these “Turkey Headband.“The patterns and instructions are in the 1st Grade Projects Gallery in the sidebar.
